Superfruit

Back in 2005, the phrase “superfruit” was used to explain a group of fruits and berries that have extremely high amounts of antioxidant and other health-promoting nutrients. One of the very first was the blueberry, which topped a list of foods with high antioxidant strength compiled by the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) in 2004. Then recently, more attention has been focused on other berries and tree fruits that yield even higher antioxidant activity. Among the former are acai and goji berries, while the latter include mangosteen and pomegranate. Many of these are traditional food sources in exotic and remote areas of the world, giving them a distinctive character of mystique that is advantageous in marketing.

The marketing of exotic superfruit products has led many students of better health through nutrition to become a bit skeptical about “the newest, best superfruit”. It almost seems as if the exploration for a better source of more densely packaged nutrients will ultimately have to take us beyond the confines of our earth. As it turns out, this is nearly the scenario.

Maqui Berry in Patagonia RegionThe Mapuche Indians Benefits

In the pristine area of Patagonia, the southernmost part of South America that distance Chile and Argentina and reaches almost to Antarctica, there lived a group of natives with an amazing history – the Mapuche Indians. This tribal group has never been conquered by any of their adversaries, whether the remarkable Native American civilizations, such as the Incas, or European explorers and colonists. The Mapuches resisted conquest by the Spaniards who settled in Chile and Argentina for over 300 years. It was only through treaties executed in the 19th century that they ultimately blended into the Spanish culture that had been established around their homelands. How were the Mapuches able to resist conquest over such a long time and against such seemingly great odds? Simply put, they were bigger, stronger, faster, smarter, good stamina and healthier than their adversaries. And this appears to be due to their use of a remarkable Superfruit as food, beverage, and medicine – the Maqui Berry.

The Mapuche Indians in South America have long enjoyed the Maqui Berry superfruit for it’s “Healing Powers”.

Maqui Berry – The  NEW King Superfruit Champion

The Maqui Berry of the Aristotelia chilensis is a tasty, deeply purple berry that is rich with anthocyanins, a potent group of antioxidants which give the berry its coloration and provide many documented health advantages. E.g. skin inflammation, pain, disorders of the stomach and fatigue. The Maqui berry is taken orally as well as externally in a poultice to heal abrasion, cuts, and other wounds. The Maqui Berry has the highest ORAC value (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) than any berry (including the previous champion acai berry) or any known food source to man. This becomes especially significant with respect to protect against aging and age-related disorders. It is also packed with other nutrients that give it many powerful and advantageous health-promoting qualities. Because the Maqui Berry grows in a very far-away and pristine  place, bordered by two oceans and away from sources of pollution, it is naturally organic.
